Description

This course begins with an introduction to Mortgage Backed Security (MBS) where we’ll look into the reasons for the rapid growth of the MBS market and the size of the MBS market.

You will learn to identify the U.S. mortgage agencies and distinguish among them regarding their legal status, nature of the guarantees they offer and types of mortgages they securitize. You'll also learn about the two major types of securities based on the securitization of mortgages and describe the type of structuring connected with each.

By the end of this course, you’ll also be able to describe the basic features of agency pass-through securities and collateralized mortgage obligations (CMOs) and how their structural differences impact cash flows received by investors.

This course is a teaser offering for New York Institute of Finance’s Mortgage Backed Securities Professional Certificate program. To learn more about the Professional Certificate program, click here.
